REVISIONS TO Workout Rules EFFECTIVE 2009 SEASON

For purpose of Rule 1 (rr) and Rule 31 (17) the prescribed minimum distances and times to be recognized as an official workout are as follows:

 

Horses entering to run less than 6 furlongs:

 A horse which has not started for period of 30 days or more shall not be allowed to enter into a race unless;

 - it has one official recorded workout of not less than 3 furlongs.

A horse which has not started for a period of 45 days or more shall not be allowed to enter unless;

 - there has been one official recorded workout of not less than 4 furlongs which shall have taken place within 30 days of entry.

A horse which has not started for a period of 60 days or more shall not be allowed to enter unless;

 – it has two official recorded workouts; one 4 furlong work and one other. Workouts must be within 30 days of entry.

A horse which has not started for a period of one year or more shall not be allowed to enter unless;

 -it has two official recorded workouts of not less than 4 furlongs.  One workout shall be from the starting gate  and must be within     30  days of entry.

 

Horses entering to run 6 furlongs or longer:

 

A horse which has not started for period of 30 days or more shall not be allowed to enter into a race unless;

 - it has one official recorded workout of not less than 3 furlongs.

A horse which has not started for a period of 45 days or more shall not be allowed to enter unless;

 - there has been one official recorded workout of not less than 4 furlongs which shall have taken place within 30 days of entry.

A horse which has not started for a period of 60 days or more shall not be allowed to enter unless;

 - it has two official recorded workouts;

              -at least one of which shall not be less than 5 furlongs.

              -both workouts must take place within 30 days of entry.

A horse which has not started for a period of one year or more shall not be allowed to enter unless;

 - it has three official recorded workouts within 45 days of entry;

-one of which shall not be less than 5 furlongs and be approved by the Commission Veterinarian and be within 30 days of entry

-one official workout must be from the starting gate within the current race meeting (If gate work is outside of 45 days, horse is still required to have three official workouts within 45 days of entry).

 

Two Year Olds and First Lifetime Starters shall not be allowed to enter unless;

- it has two official workouts, both workouts must be within 30 days of entry and one of which shall not be less than 4 furlongs.

- if entered at a distance of 6 furlongs or longer one of the two official workouts shall not be less than 5 furlongs.

- It has had one official workout from the starting gate within 60 days of entry.

 

The minimum time to be recognized as an official workout are as follows:

 

3 furlongs –  40 (dogs up 41) two year olds 40 (dogs up 42)

4 furlongs –  53 (dogs up 55) two year olds 54 (dogs up 56)

5 furlongs – 107 (dogs up 1:08) two year olds 1:07 (dogs up 1:09)

6 furlongs – 1:18 (dogs up 1:19&3) two year olds 1:19 (dogs up 1:21)

7 furlongs – 1:34

1 mile – 1:48

 

All workouts must be in qualifying times, must be for the full distance and any horse coming off the Vet’s list must have a 4 furlong workout approved by the Commission Veterinarian
